July 2nd, 2009

When it is time for your windows to be cleaned, a large majority of the times people pick up phonebooks or go online to find a company.

And unfortunately, a person may just choose whoever they see first.Well I would like to give you some great advice on how to pick a window cleaning company.  This is going to be advice coming from my years of experience as a San Diego Window cleaning company.

Now you may be thinking, what’s the big deal when hiring a window washing company.  Well for starters, there are a lot of companies out there who will just hire anybody to clean windows for them.  They do this without a background check.Well you do realize, these people are going to have access going in and out of your house.  With that being the case, wouldn’t you want to make sure the company you choose is a reputable company.  It could mean the difference between not just a good cleaning job, but it could also mean the difference in items being lost or stolen from your home.

So what must you do to screen for a good company?  Well for starters, you can see if the employees are uniformed, clean, and professional.  If they are not, this could be a sign of a company that goes through new employees every week without much screening.

Second thing you want to do is to check and make sure the company is bonded and insured.Accidents can and do happen, and if they do, you want as much protection in place as possible.

Third, are they a company who uses professional equipment. This does help you in seeing if the company is professional in their work and if it is quality work.

Fourth, check and see the length of time they have been in business.Like most things, longevity says a lot and shows you that you are dealing with a very reputable company.

Lastly, you want to get any past references of past customers.Nothing is better validation on how good their work is than a company’s previous customers. This is going to allow you to know how well they have done in their past performances.

There you have it.  Some quick tips you can use to find the best window cleaning company around.

How To Pick a Painting Contractor

June 22nd, 2009

To almost all families, their home is an important part of their lives. No only the day to day living in it, but also family times goes on there as well as those leisure times.

Well, when you do find it is time to start some work on your house, such as painting, this can be a stressful time and a disruptive time in their lives.

With that being the case, I would like to offer some advice on choosing the right painting contractor.  This advice comes from years working with homeowners and also running a San Diego painting company myself.

At first, having to pick a good painting company doesn’t seem like a big job.  But if you consider the fact that this project will cost thousands of dollars, cause an interruption in the normal day to day life in the home, and of course can result in a beautiful job you can be proud of to one that you are embarrassed to show. This is a very big decision.

So here are some tips from my experience as a painter San Diego.

First off you are going to want to get quotes from several contractors. You aren’t just trying for the best price. You are doing this so that you get to know the people you will be hiring to do the work.Of course when you do get a great price, that’s great, but don’t let that be your driving force.Remember, you want the work to be done well.

Second, find out what type of warranty or guarantees they will give you on the work they do.See if they have a solid guarantee regarding your satisfaction. This shows you how confident they are in the work they can do for you.

Thirdly, you will want to know how soon they will be available to start. Also, you want to start to get an idea on how fast they think they can get it done.  When you are going to cause a disruption like painting your house.  You will want to know
how quickly they will get your life back to normal.

Finally, make sure to get some testimonials from previous customers.Contact them as soon as possible to see how they felt about the work of the company.See how well they did the job, if they did it on time, and if they are a good company to work with.

Do these things and you will create as stress free an experience as possible during this stressful time.  Take it from my years of working with painters in San Diego, doing these few steps will help you greatly.

Take Better Pictures with these Lighting Tips

June 21st, 2009

In this age of digital cameras, you have probably thought that you can just point and shoot and out will appear a great shot.  Not so fast. The honest truth is, you may have a great digital camera, but if you are clueless in what to do, you will take ugly shots.

Well, I would like to share with you some great tips on improving your digital photography skills.  These tips are coming from years of experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. These tips are all about the lighting and they will some of biggest reasons for you success in taking photographs.

First tip in lighting.  Now if you are taking shots outdoors during the day, natural sunlight provides some of the best lighting possible.  Now you are probably thinking, “that’s easy, when you are a San Diego photographer since it is always shiny there”, when in actuality really bright sunlight can cast harsh shadows.  Or it can wash out the details in faces if the sun is overhead.

Overall, you are going to want to take most of the shots with the sun behind you. This stops any harsh shadows in your photo caused by the sun.But there will be those times and instances when you want different angles to get those shadows into the shots.

Now that we have tackled the day shots, what if you are taking shots at night?

The trick to taking night shots is to turn off your flash.Of course if it is absolutely dark with no light you wil need it, but for times when there is some lighting, use the lighting around you, but make sure the shutter speeds are slow enough to let light in.Also, stay steady when you are taking your photograph or you will cause the picture to blur.Doing these tricks should make a significantly dramatic difference when you take night shots.

The final tips to using lighting for great shots is using the golden hour. Now there is a time that photographers refer to as the “golden hour” or “magic hour”, and that is during sunrise and sunset.

These times of day you wll be able to capture great shots because you will get the more warmer and inviting colors.  You will be able to capture that golden lighting you won’t catch any other time of day.

There you have it.Probably the biggest secret in taking great photographs is taking advantage of the natural lighting.  Knowing what techniques to use for different parts of the day, or just scheduling a photo shoots to capture those times of day will help you become an excellent photographer.
